A Day of Love: Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day, a day of love, is celebrated with great pomp all over the world, although in childhood I had not even heard the name of Valentine's Day, within a short time, it became very popular in the society around us.
Valentine's Day has been in existence in Western countries for a long time, but it took a long time to come to India. Those who say that in ancient Rome, the festival of love was celebrated on 13 to 14 February, but at that time, people of the Christian religion Were not able to celebrate it with much fanfare.
Initially, it was known as St. Valentine. He was the same St. Valentine who was killed by the Roman Emperor Claudius II due to his anger over his initiation into Christianity.
Romano changed the name of this ancient festival of love and ended a tradition that was going on with it. The tradition was that the women participating in the festival were beaten, the belief behind which was that the woman was as good as anyone else. The more they beat, the more their fertility (ability to produce children) will increase.
Medieval Englishman Geoffrey Chancer and famous writer William Shakespeare called Valentine's Day a day of love and composed poetry in memory of this day. If Geoffrey had not called Valentine's Day a day of love and in his poems, If I had not mentioned this in this book, then colorful birds would have come in flocks to choose their mates on this day, and today, such widespread recognition would probably never have been achieved.
However, neither of the two Valentine's Day saints who were killed in mid-February were romantics.
In fact, when the Roman Emperor Claudius II had banned the marriage of all his soldiers, then a Saint Valentine stood against the order of the Emperor, and this Saint Valentine got many of his soldiers married, due to this, on 14 February itself, Emperor Claudius II executed Saint Valentine
Before being killed, Saint Valentine had fallen in love with the jailer's daughter, and the letter sent by him was written: "From your Valentine".
Today, in the 21st century, Love Day is celebrated in the name of the same Saint Valentine, but I do not believe in just one day in a year dedicated to love because love is continuous and eternal.
This is a very useful day for businessmen, as in the year 2020 in America, due to Valentine's Day, in just one week, businessmen had earned a total of 18 billion dollars from cards, flowers, and special dinners, whereas in 2019 this amount was 17 billion dollars. |
But there are many opponents of this festival in this continent, like in Bangladesh and Pakistan, in India too it is considered against their culture, but isn't love a part of our culture?
Do those who take out processions against Love Day ever take out processions against rape, brutality, and hatred? Just not possible
Wherever Valentine's Day originated, it may be a day known only for business, but everyone should remember that it is a day dedicated to pure love because today, there is an atmosphere of hatred and distrust all around us, which is difficult for the human mind. When selfishness and jealousy have made a place for us, and there is war and unrest everywhere, then what could be more pleasant than a day dedicated to love?
Its opponents, who are always against love, are more interested in investigating its horoscope, saying that it is not a part of our culture because it started in the city of Rome, and they also oppose it by giving different arguments.
But in which country's culture is it prohibited to love or be in love?
The truth is that ever since man came into this world, he always learns to take from others, for this he takes the help of deceit, force, and skill, but no one teaches him about giving.
If one day of love teaches a person to give something that makes him a little generous, then what is the harm in it? 365 days of the year are spent fighting, jealousy, and hatred. Only one day is available for love, but people complain about this too.
Human society, which has no problem with the public display of hatred and violence, has objections to the public display of love, whereas Valentine's Day is no longer limited to lovers, husbands, and wives nowadays, people also celebrate it with parents, friends, and even some people. Happy Valentine's Day to your beloved dogs and cats, too.
Yes, if something has to be done, then it should be taken out of the clutches of the businessmen by these opponents, but this seems like an impossible task. In such a situation, the time has come to think about how to make this day meaningful and memorable.
Suggestion: If atrocities against women do not reduce even on Valentine's Day, then what is the significance of this day? If you can't give flowers, then don't give thorns. If not kiss, then don't even slap, can't we wish this on the occasion of this day?
No woman should have to become a sexual slave, no woman should have to suffer the atrocities of one man, no woman should have tears in her eyes, and no girl should be deprived of opportunities for education, health, and self-reliance just because she is a girl. Had to happen.
Because only love can make this earth beautiful and meaningful.
